3 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose

To provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to the Housing Litigation Team, assisting in the management of housing-related legal matters including rent arrears, possession proceedings, warrant applications, disrepair claims, tenancy enforcement, and anti-social behaviour cases. The postholder will manage their own caseload of routine matters while supporting fee earners in delivering an efficient, high-quality legal service. A key focus of the role will be reducing case backlogs, maintaining accurate case records, and ensuring effective case progression.



Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a personal caseload of housing litigation matters, including rent arrears and warrant application cases.
  • Progress cases efficiently to support the reduction of existing backlogs and ensure compliance with court deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate case management records, trackers, databases, and spreadsheets to enable clients to monitor case progress.
  • Draft routine correspondence, legal documents, witness statements, notices, and court forms.
  • Issue proceedings and applications through the courts and relevant online systems.
  • Prepare, organise, and manage legal bundles, disclosure documents, and case files.
  • Support solicitors and fee earners with disrepair, tenancy management, possession, nuisance, and unauthorised occupant cases.
  • Liaise with clients, tenants, external legal representatives, counsel, courts, and other stakeholders.
  • Arrange and instruct Counsel where appropriate, including booking hearings and preparing instructions.
  • Process invoices and assist with financial administration relating to legal matters.
  • Conduct legal research and gather information to support case preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, court procedures, and organisational policies.
  • Assist with the continuous improvement of working practices and case management processes within the Housing Litigation Team.


Requirements

  • Experience working as a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, Litigation Assistant, or within a legal support environment.
  • Experience of housing litigation, rent arrears recovery, possession proceedings, or social housing matters.
  • Preferably CILEX qualified or working towards a recognised legal qualification.
  • Understanding of court procedures and civil litigation processes.
  • Experience managing a busy caseload and working to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to draft routine legal documents and correspondence accurately.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience maintaining case management systems, trackers, and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and support multiple fee earners.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.

  • Hours per Week: 35 Hours
  • Location: Lb of Lambeth - Hybrid / Office-Based (Subject to Service Requirements)
  • Bi-Weekly Payments
