Spend your summer working alongside professional foresters, wildlife managers, and land management experts while gaining hands-on experience in sustainable forestry operations. Westervelt's Forestry Internship provides real-world exposure to timberland management, harvest planning, reforestation, GIS applications, and operational decision-making across some of the Southeast's most productive forestlands.

As a Forestry Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience working alongside industry experts, contributing to meaningful projects, and learning how sustainable forestry supports both the environment and the communities we serve.

Position Overview

The Forestry Intern will support the Westervelt Forest Resources Group in a hands-on, field-based role designed to provide practical experience in forest management. This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing a degree in forestry, natural resources, or a related field to gain exposure to real-world operations and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

聽Assist foresters with harvest planning, contract administration, and field inspections.聽

聽Participate in road layout, maintenance planning, and infrastructure assessments.聽

聽Support silvicultural activities including site preparation, planting, herbicide applications, and stand evaluations.聽

聽Gain exposure to nursery and seed orchard operations that support long-term forest sustainability.聽

聽Assist with timber inventory, data collection, and GIS mapping projects.聽

聽Monitor and implement Forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs) to support responsible land stewardship.聽

聽Work safely in a variety of field conditions across active timberland operations.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field
  • Willingness to relocate to one of the internship sites for the summer
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, and interest in fieldwork
  • Valid driver鈥檚 license and good driving record
