POSITION SPECIFICS
The Office of Physical Plant is seeking a Custodial Services Supervisor for the weekends to direct staff and technical service personnel in delivering responsive, high-quality, and cost-effective custodial services. This position is responsible for effectively utilizing and stewarding human, financial, and material resources while coordinating with internal and external departments to support the mission of the University.
Work Schedule
This is a weekend supervisor role that will primarily work:
- Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday
- 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This is a 4-day/40-hour schedule consisting of four 10-hour shifts. The successful candidate must be flexible and willing to adjust work hours as needed to support special events, operational needs, and University activities.
Primary Responsibilities
Work Supervision
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff and technical employees.
- Plan work schedules for all shifts.
- Establish cleaning procedures.
- Maintain inventory and ensure adequate distribution of materials to job sites.
- Inspect work areas and ensure quality and quantity standards are met.
- Report physical changes in work areas and coordinate required maintenance or equipment repairs.
- Maintain shift records, reports, work orders, schedules, and related documentation.
- Ensure work is completed within established timeframes and performance standards.
- Supervise temporary and wage/payroll employees during seasonal operations, Temporary Transfers, and Stadium Operations.
- Ensure compliance with University recycling policies, waste removal procedures, and custodial standards.
- Provide coverage for Custodial Supervisors when absent, including timecard approval, work order issuance, overtime coverage, quality assurance inspections, and customer service.
- Assist with custodial snow removal efforts.
Quality Assurance & Improvement
- Recommend improvements to cleaning methods, procedures, materials, equipment, and organizational processes.
- Identify and resolve workflow issues.
- Apply Continuous Quality Improvement techniques to ensure quality standards are achieved.
- Coach employees on proper techniques and procedures.
- Monitor preventive maintenance work orders and key performance measures.
- Participate in seminars and conferences to stay current with industry trends and technology advancements.
- Conduct quality assurance inspections as needed.
Human Resource Supervision
- Address employee relations and disciplinary matters in accordance with University policies and union agreements.
- Participate in the grievance process.
- Recommend staffing changes and consult with the Custodial Programs Manager regarding personnel actions.
- Schedule and conduct required monthly employee training.
- Mentor employees and assist with training needs assessments.
Budget Administration
- Administer and monitor assigned budgets.
- Track planned and actual expenditures.
- Provide data and analysis to support budgeting and planning efforts.
- Make operational decisions based on budget status.
- Assume budget responsibilities when covering vacancies or absences in other custodial districts.
Safety
- Ensure security and safety within assigned buildings.
- Maintain safe working conditions for employees.
- Investigate accidents and incidents.
- Monitor compliance with safety procedures, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), injury reporting, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Perform weekly safety inspections.
- Recommend and implement injury prevention measures.
- Conduct safety inspections for other supervisors and employees as needed.
Customer Service & Relations
- Build and maintain positive relationships with facility coordinators, service desk coordinators, key building contacts, and other customers.
- Communicate regularly with primary customers to ensure satisfaction with custodial services.
- Attend and actively participate in customer meetings.
- Follow up on service requests and customer concerns to ensure timely resolution.
Preferred Education
- Vocational or technical training or degree
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Associate Degree
4+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $49,188.00 - $71,340.00.
