The office of Student Care and Advocacy has openings for a part-timeĀ or full-time,Ā undergraduateĀ or graduate intern designed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences.Ā The Student Care & AdvocacyĀ caseĀ managementĀ intern serves as aĀ supportĀ for theĀ case management teamĀ in addressing unforeseen student situationsĀ such as complex behavioral and/or psychological challenges, social or adjustment problems, academic related challenges, and financial insecurity.Ā

The Case Management internĀ will triage calls and emails,Ā andĀ provideĀ resources, advocacy, and support toĀ membersĀ of the university communityĀ across a broad spectrum of issues and concerns.Ā Ā
Ā
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Ā
Case Management SupportĀ
Triage calls and/or emails and assign cases in case management system.āÆĀ
ProvideĀ appropriate referralsĀ and resources, including but not limited to, medical care, food and housing insecurity and funding requests in times of crisis.āÆĀ
Provide drop-in services to studentsĀ
Complete documentation and maintain records of student cases inĀ onlineĀ case management system.āÆĀ
Empower students to build self-sufficiency skills, especially around navigating community systemsĀ
Follow up with and support students in distress toĀ monitorĀ progress and ensure compliance with recommendations.Ā
Support students in applying for publicĀ assistanceĀ benefits and programming.Ā
Basic Needs Hub SupportĀ
Monitor inventory of Cub Pantry and Basic Needs HubĀ
Remove expired items from Cub PantryĀ
Place weekly order with Lionās Pantry to replenish food itemsĀ
Sort food and other basic needs resource items toĀ maintainĀ neat environmentĀ
Office SupportĀ
Greet and direct walk-in students or other visitorsĀ
Answer phonesĀ
Communicate with parents/guardians, families, or designated emergency contacts, asĀ appropriate.Ā
AssistĀ with clerical tasks such as retrieving and distributing mail, making copies, etc.Ā
Special projectsĀ
Projects and other duties will be assigned based on the needs of SCA and the skills and abilities of our work study teamĀ
Outreach events, including but not limited to presentations for other studentsĀ

About Student Care and Advocacy, a division of Penn State Student AffairsĀ

Student Care and AdvocacyĀ usesĀ a coordinated, team approach when empowering students to navigate unforeseen difficulties and suggests a course of action that considers the needs of the individual in the context of available resources. No matter the situation faced by the student, the team focuses on helping the whole person, knowing that difficult circumstances are often indicators of other challenges that the student may be facing. While the team helps studentsĀ experiencingĀ any issue, the office has three primary pillars of care: Basic Needs, Respondent Support, and Care Coordination. Examples of situations with which the office canĀ assist are academic distress, financial insecurity, housing/food insecurity, death of an immediate family member, family emergency/crisis, mental health concerns, medical emergency and/or hospitalization, long-term illness, being named in allegations of misconduct, navigating a university misconduct process, and/or unexpected events or challenges. The approach isĀ one of empowerment, encouraging students to maximize their educational experience and prepare for involvement in the larger community and life beyond college.Ā

This is a 10-40 hourĀ per week position withĀ a possibilityĀ of some remote work.Ā Stipend available based on contracted hours.Ā

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
