Job Description

Participates in the installation, maintenance and repair of hospital electrical systems and equipment under the supervision of a licensed electrician.

Job Responsibility

1.Participates in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment including, but not limited to, low/high voltage services, panel boards (circuit directories, breakers, fuse replacements), distribution systems, transformers, signal and paging systems, relays, switches, cables and conduits, controls fixtures, ballasts, motors and associated electrical equipment.                                           

2.Assists in the installation and maintenance of new branch circuits or services, conduits and flexible cables including wire, rigid pipe, boxes, BX and Greenfield. 

 3.Sizes and places electrical equipment into wire ways terminating with proper splices and connections.                      

4.Tests or "rings out" voltage wiring systems and troubleshoots electrical installations.                                                                        

5.Maintains and repairs electrical and electronic plant equipment including solenoid valves, motors, electric beds and pumps.                                                                      

6.Performs general clean-up, painting, and/or moving of equipment associated with electrical work performed.       

7.Inspects and tests electrical systems and equipment. Completes work order assignments.                                          

8.Documents inspections and tests performed according to NYC Electrical Code requirements. Reports findings to licensed electrician and/or management.                                                        

9.May order materials for work through proper channels, as required.                                                                                                   

10.Performs related duties as required.Physical Demands: Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift and move heavy material and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. Must have acceptably corrected visual acuity.

Job Qualification

 High school diploma or equivalency, required.
Trade school graduate in electricity or equivalent, required.
Minimum of five (5) years electrical experience, both installing and maintaining, required. Experience with motors, controls and schematics, required.>
Knowledge of all types of power tools and electrical measuring meters including pipe treading machines, electric hoists, power drills, etc. Keen sense of safety around working machines.
Knowledge of NYC Electrical Code.
Working knowledge of all building, grounds, facilities and department work areas.
Ability to read plans and trace circuits from prints and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams.
Ability to tread a pipe. Manual dexterity.
Ability to work independently. Ability to work with any of the other trades (for example plumbing).
Strong verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented.
