This is a part-time position teaching lecture and laboratory sections for multiple classes during the 2026-2027 academic year at Virginia Wesleyan University (soon to be Batten University). The courses include: 

  • BIO 100 Introductory Biology for nonmajors
  • BIO 201 Microbiology for Health Sciences
  • BIO 221 Human Anatomy and Physiology I 
  • BIO 222 Human Anatomy and Physiology II

The adjunct instructor will teach in person during the day or early evening.  Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. and demonstrated experience in teaching college-level biology, although candidates with a M.S. or 18 graduate semester hours in Biology will be considered. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare syllabi that meet the VWU syllabus guidelines and provide these to students on the first day of class. Syllabi should also be provided to department chairs.
  • Be on time and prepared for class sessions and grade, provide feedback, and return assignments within a reasonable time period.
  • Communicate with students via office hours and email.
  • Submit mid-term reports, final grades, and C- reports per guidelines provided by the University Registrar.
  • Comply with FERPA regulations.
  • Coordinate with Campus support services as needed to support students. 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biology or M.S. with 18 graduate hours in Biology
  • Teaching experience is preferred
  • Willingness to learn and use Blackboard, the University Learning Management System. 
  • Strong communication skills.
