POSITION SUMMARY:
H&V is building a Strategy Office, and we are seeking a Manager, Strategy & Market Intelligence as a founding member of the team. Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, this role will establish a market intelligence center of excellence — turning what is today tribal knowledge into structured, dynamic insights that inform business decisions, innovation, the long range plan, and M&A activity. The role starts with H&V’s core markets and expands into adjacencies and growth opportunities. The person in this role will engage directly with customers, industry experts, executives, and the Board of Directors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and maintain H&V’s Market Intelligence Center of Excellence — a durable, searchable repository of market, customer, competitor, and macroeconomic insight
- Develop structured intelligence on H&V’s core markets (sizing, growth, segmentation, trends, competitive landscape) and expand coverage into adjacent markets and white-space opportunities
- Serve as a thought partner to the CSO and business leaders on the Long Range Plan, providing market context, growth opportunities, and risks
- Support M&A activity through target screening, market and competitive analysis, valuation, and diligence inputs
- Engage directly with customers, industry experts, and trade associations to validate hypotheses and sharpen H&V’s point of view
- Prepare and deliver executive- and board-level materials that translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate research, synthesis, and the quality of insights
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills
- Financial analysis: cash flow, NPV, valuation, and business case development
- Market analysis: sizing, segmentation, competitor analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, macroeconomic correlation
- Proficiency with AI tools for research, synthesis, and analysis
- Strong data visualization and executive communication (Excel, PowerPoint; Tableau or Power BI a plus)
- Familiarity with secondary research sources (e.g., S&P Capital IQ, PitchBook, IBISWorld) a plus
- Discretion in handling confidential strategic and M&A information
- Up to 25% travel
CORE COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
The person who assumes this role must possess the following personal attributes necessary for success within H&V:
- Curiosity — a genuine drive to understand markets, customers, and competitors deeply
- Critical thinking — asks the right questions, challenges assumptions, separates signal from noise
- Challenge the status quo — brings fresh, outside-in perspectives and pushes back constructively
- Executive presence — credible and confident with customers, executives, and Board members
- Business acumen — connects market dynamics to business outcomes
- Comfort with ambiguity — structures unstructured problems and prioritizes what matters most
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- MBA required; recent graduates through ~4 years of post-MBA experience encouraged to apply
- Technical undergraduate degree (engineering, sciences) a plus
- Background in management consulting, corporate strategy, corporate development, or equity research preferred
- Industrial / B2B market exposure a plus; filtration, materials, or advanced manufacturing especially valuable
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTS:
- Office-based at H&V’s East Walpole, MA headquarters; hybrid schedule available
- Travel up to 25% for customer visits, industry events, and target/site evaluations
- Occasional exposure to manufacturing environments during plant or
customer site visits
