TITLE: House Manager

STATUS: Part-time Non-Exempt

DIVISION: Marketing

DEPARTMENT: Audience Services

REPORTS TO: Audience Services Director

ONSITE REQUIREMENTS: Fully Onsite

THE POSITION

Studio Theatre seeks dynamic part-time House Managers (HM). HMs set the tone of the Patron Experience and are responsible for the smooth operation of the Theatre, or the “House,” during the show’s run. They provide answers to patron questions, listen to patrons' compliments and concerns, and provide an excellent patron experience at all performances. House Managers report to the Audience Services Director; however, during any given performance, will work alongside the Manager on Duty (MOD) and supervise the assigned Front of House staff, which is made up of a team of volunteers.

This public facing position is the primary point of contact for Studio Theatre with whom audiences will interact on a regular basis.

The position is part-time with a varied schedule (0-20 hours weekly) with required night and weekend availability. This job requires work to be performed onsite at Studio Theatre.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key duties of the House Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating building opening times with MOD.
  • Working closely with MOD to ensure proper staff are in place for all performances.
  • Maintaining the “store,” including inventory checks and daily reconciliation.
  • Upholding the appearance of the lobby and all public areas as necessary to ensure a clean environment.
  • Resolving conflicts with any patron seating issues.
  • Conducting pre-show volunteer meetings.
  • Maintaining ticket-scanning equipment, assistive listening devices, captioning devices, and walkie-talkies for communicating with Stage Manager.
  • Working closely with the Box Office to ensure any patron ticketing issues are resolved in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Providing additional support in emergency situations, including fire alarms and inclement weather warnings.
  • Participate in Studio Theatre’s on-going anti-racism work.

Event Staff

As House Manager you will sometimes have the opportunity to work as event staff for event rentals at Studio. As Event Staff you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Setting up necessary tables, chairs, and signage for event.
  • Facilitating the proper organization and cleanliness of public spaces prior to event.
  • Welcoming guests to the venue and taking tickets and checking in where necessary.
  • Providing guests with directions within the Theatre.
  • Providing guests with accurate venue information.
  • Enforcement of theatre policy and procedures.
  • Any additional tasks assigned by event manager or point of contact.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Studio Theatre is seeking an individual with considerable talent, passion for the theatre, and ability to advance institutional aims. We expect a candidate will have:

  • Prior experience working events in a customer-facing capacity.
  • Excellent customer service background.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Schedule flexibility and ability to work performances and events, including nights and weekends.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office products; experience with ticketing software is a plus but not required (Studio Theatre uses the Tessitura ticketing system).
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and enthusiasm to work with teams with diverse identities
  • This position requires:
  • Standing for extended periods of time.
  • Repeatedly moving between long and short distances, including climbing stairs.
  • Lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds, such as supplies and equipment, may be required.

COMPENSATION:

This position is a part-time, hourly non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $19/hour. This position’s weekly hours vary depending on the show and event schedule and there is no guarantee of hours.
