Job Title:  Medical Assistant

Department:  Clinics 

Status:   Part Time, 24 hours per week


Summary/Objective

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care services under the general direction of the Clinic Coordinator and Medical Director.  


Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Greets patients, rooms patient, takes vitals and documents pertinent information about reason for the visit.  Collects information to ensure quality measures are met and performs a medication reconciliation at every visit

  2. Communicates with patients in person and over the phone to ensure that their requests are recorded and transferred to the appropriate clinic staff, billing staff or administrative staff to handle.

  3. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

  4. Assists the providers in all aspects of the consultation, treatment, procedures, and follow-up care.

  5. Provides immunizations, injections, testing and treatments as ordered by providers.

  6. Ensures all samples obtained for testing are labeled appropriately for sending out to the laboratory.

  7. Collaborates with other clinic staff, clinic coordinator and Director on process improvements and policy changes.

  8. Attends monthly meetings and takes an active role to ensure our patients get the best care.

  9. Familiarizes self with Rural Health Manual and follows policies and procedures of IMH.

  10. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.

  11. Other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  1. Annual orientation

  2. Blood Glucose Monitoring

  3. CLIA Waived testing


Required Education and Experience

  1. MA certification

  2. Proficient typist with computer skills.

  3. Proven Customer Service skills.

  4. Previous Medical Experience preferred

  5. BLS
