Supplier Quality Engineer

Supply Chain – Supplier Quality | Full-Time | On-Site | Waxahachie, Texas

Americase is a Texas-based manufacturer and distributor of protective cargo cases and specialized shipping solutions, serving customers across the country and around the world. We are looking for a hands-on Supplier Quality Engineer to be our eyes and ears at supplier sites, catching quality and delivery problems at the source before material ever ships.

Why Join Us?

  • See the World of Manufacturing: Work directly on supplier and manufacturing partner floors in the United States, Mexico, and beyond.
  • Real Ownership: Act as Americase’s on-site representative, trusted to make the call on quality at the source.
  • Build the System: Help build the processes that decide which suppliers we select and how we hold them to requirements.
  • Growth Environment: Join a fast-growing company where your findings directly shape supplier performance and product quality.

Position Summary

The Supplier Quality Engineer ensures the quality and delivery accuracy of the Americase supplier network. Reporting to the Manager of Supplier Quality, this role travels to supplier and manufacturing partner sites to carry out supplier qualification, first article inspection, production startup, and source inspection, and to verify supplier output quality and schedule.

The ideal candidate is a self-directed quality professional with strong technical and manufacturing knowledge who is comfortable working independently at supplier sites, builds productive supplier relationships, and thrives in a fast-paced growth environment with changing demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supplier Qualification and Audits: Conduct supplier qualification visits and process audits, evaluating quality systems, process capability, inspection methods, equipment, and capacity, and document findings to support approval decisions.
  • First Article Inspection: Oversee first article inspection at supplier sites for new parts, new suppliers, and design changes, verifying results against drawings and specifications and using AS9102 format where customers require it.
  • Production Startup: Support startup at new and transitioning suppliers, verifying that process controls, work instructions, inspection plans, and packaging are in place before the first production shipment.
  • Source Inspection: Perform and witness source inspection of critical parts at supplier sites to confirm conformance before material ships.
  • Output and Schedule Monitoring: Monitor supplier quality and production schedule during site visits, verify work-in-process and shipment readiness, and report risks to delivery commitments.
  • Capacity Assessment: Assess supplier capacity and sub-tier constraints, such as raw material availability and outside processing, and report findings and recovery actions.
  • Nonconformance and Corrective Action: Document nonconformances at the source, work with suppliers on immediate containment, and verify on site that corrective actions are implemented and effective.
  • Requirements Flow-Down: Communicate Americase quality, drawing, and customer flow-down requirements to suppliers, and help suppliers develop inspection and control plans.
  • Reporting and Data: Prepare visit reports, audit findings, and first article inspection records, and maintain the supplier quality data used in scorecards.
  • Program Support: Support the Manager of Supplier Quality with supplier scorecards, performance reviews, risk assessments, and special projects.

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

  • Supplier Partnership: Build productive working relationships with suppliers while holding them to requirements.
  • Status Updates: Provide timely updates to the Manager of Supplier Quality, Procurement, and Production on supplier status and risks.
  • Field-to-Receiving Feedback: Share field findings with the Supplier Quality Lead, so receiving inspection plans reflect what is happening at the supplier.
  • Issue Resolution: Partner with Procurement and Engineering to resolve supplier issues and align on part, schedule, and quality priorities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring supplier issues, recommend improvements, and support a culture of safety and accountability.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of supplier quality, quality engineering, or quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, including work performed at supplier sites
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and quality experience
  • Hands-on experience with fabricated metal (sheet metal, aluminum, welding), machined components, plastics, foam, and purchased hardware
  • Experience performing first article inspections, source inspections, and supplier audits
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years

Preferred Qualifications

  • AS9102 first article inspection experience
  • Experience working with suppliers or manufacturing partners in Mexico or Asia
  • ASQ certification (CQI, CQA, or CQE)
  • Spanish proficiency (strongly preferred)

Skills and Competencies

  • Supplier audits and process assessments
  • First article and source inspection
  • Blueprint reading and GD&T
  • Precision measurement tools
  • Root cause analysis and corrective action
  • ISO 9001 and AS9100 knowledge
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and independent judgment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency

Who You Are

  • Self-directed and able to work independently at supplier sites with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented and persistent in follow-up
  • Builds rapport with suppliers while holding the line on requirements
  • A clear, timely communicator who reports facts and risks without delay

Travel and Work Requirements

  • Travel up to 50%, including extended trips to supplier sites in Mexico and potential international travel to Asia and Europe
  • Valid passport or the ability to obtain one
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on supplier production floors, lift up to 50 pounds, and wear required PPE
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to support supplier startups and schedules

Pre-Employment Requirements: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check prior to the start date, conducted in accordance with applicable law, and a pre-employment drug screen.
