Commercial Construction Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller plays a key role in supporting the company’s accounting operations by assisting with the preparation of financial reports, maintaining accounting records, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with company policies and reporting requirements. Reporting to the Controller or the Vice President of Accounting and Finance, the Assistant Controller will help oversee day-to-day accounting functions, support the month-end and year-end closing processes, and assist in financial analysis. Financial Reporting and Accounting Support:

· Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP and company policies.

· Help oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring that all accounting records are accurate, complete, and reconciled.

· Ensure accurate and complete accounting records are maintained, including general ledger entries and journal entries.

Accounts Payable and Receivable Management:

· Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring that invoices, payments, and receipts are processed in a timely manner.

· Assist in reconciling vendor statements, ensuring that accounts are current and discrepancies are resolved.

· Help manage the collection of outstanding invoices, assisting with communication with clients and vendors to ensure timely payments.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

· Assist in maintaining internal controls, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data and safeguarding company assets.

· Support the implementation and monitoring of accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with company standards and reporting requirements.

· Help prepare documentation for external audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting standards.

Team Collaboration and Leadership Support:

· Work closely with the Controller and other members of the accounting team to ensure smooth and efficient accounting operations.

· Provide support to senior leadership, including the Controller or Vice President of Accounting and Finance, in preparing financial reports, presentations, and other key documents.

· Assist in training and mentoring junior accounting staff to enhance their skills and ensure adherence to accounting standards and best practices.

Key Performance Indicators

· Accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, assisting in ensuring financial statements are delivered on time and meeting company standards.

· Successful management of accounts payable and receivable, with a focus on efficiency and minimizing discrepancies.

· Adherence to internal controls and regulatory compliance, ensuring accuracy and reducing financial risks.

· Strong communication and collaboration with leadership and the accounting team to improve overall financial operations.

Education and Experience

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field is required

· 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance with a focus on financial reporting and analysis is required

· 1+ years of experience managing an accounting team, including AP, AR, and Project Accounting is required

· CPA or CPA eligible is preferred

· Experience in a commercial construction environment is highly preferred

· A strong understanding of job costing and project-level financials is preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

· Experience with ERP systems used in construction or contracting such as Viewpoint or Sage

· Proficiency with accounting software and financial reporting tools

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex functions, formulas, and data analysis tools is required.
