Responsibilities
Leads daily execution for the assigned Logistics area through direct supervision, development, and accountability of Team Leads and Team Members. Ensures safe, accurate, timely, and cost-effective material flow in support of production and customer requirements. Depending on assigned area, responsibilities may include unload/reload verification, empty-rack and empty-container handling, inventory accuracy, goods receipt against Advanced Shipping Notices (ASNs), receiving and staging, ASRS inbound flow, and production-sequence checks. Owns shift performance, standard-work discipline, issue containment, documented handoff, and corrective-action effectiveness. This is a hands-on leadership role with direct supervisory authority, not an observer role.
Team Leadership, Staffing & Daily Management
- Lead, develop, and hold Team Leads and warehouse staff accountable for safety, quality, staffing deployment, standard work, training, and shift results.
- Conduct daily management routines, including SPQRCD pre-shift communication, early-shift yard check, workload and staffing review, safety and quality checks, KPI review, escalation, and documented shift handoff.
- Review attendance, absences, critical-position coverage, and staffing gaps; deploy available qualified personnel within the approved labor model and escalate coverage risks.
- Monitor overtime requests, approvals, scheduled starts, actual hours worked, and time coding/reconciliation within delegated authority and approved procedures.
- Provide timely, factual, documented coaching; address performance concerns consistently and refer discipline or employment actions through HR and approved management channels.
- Identify development needs and verify Team Lead readiness, qualification status, and backup coverage. Maintain a respectful, professional workplace consistent with company policy and applicable law.
- Maintain an improvement pipeline for safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost; assign owners and verify completion.
Material Handling, Receiving & Empty Packaging
- Own unload/reload accountability for the assigned area: schedule, verify completion, identify exceptions, escalate failures, and coordinate recovery. Execution labor follows the approved labor model.
- For contracted feeding and returns, verify completion against the shift procedure and escalate execution failures to contractor supervision; do not directly supervise contractor employees.
- Control empty-rack and empty-container processes, including segregation, inspection, return-to-supplier scheduling, rack loss/damage accountability, and empty-return trailer flow.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of non-reusable cardboard, skids, and packaging in accordance with requirements.
- Ensure unloads-and-place execution follows approved warehouse locations; maintain accountability for customer-supplied packaging and returnable containers.
- Manage post-port shipping containers in accordance with applicable C-TPAT, MOBIS, and site requirements.
Warehouse, Inventory & Process Control
- Own inventory accuracy for the assigned area, including required inventory checks, cycle counts, reconciliation, discrepancy reporting, and timely escalation to Purchasing or the designated owner.
- Maintain accurate warehouse locations and lead area/storage re-slotting when part mix, volume, or operating conditions change.
- Coordinate with peer Logistics Supervisors as needed. Each supervisor retains accountability for the assigned area; cross-area conflicts are escalated to the Assistant Manager.
- Ensure inventory adjustments, system transactions, receiving records, and discrepancy dispositions are accurate, timely, and traceable.
Safety, Equipment & Compliance
- Enforce applicable safety rules, PPE requirements, safe material-handling practices, and authorized operation of powered industrial trucks (PIVs) and other equipment.
- Verify required equipment inspections, service records, and operator qualifications are current before authorized work is assigned.
- Immediately contain unsafe conditions within authorized scope; stop or suspend affected work when required by policy and notify the appropriate leader/EHS representative.
- Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations; preserve evidence, distinguish observed facts from assumptions, identify verified causes, and track corrective actions to effectiveness.
- Ensure Team Leads and staff follow applicable C-TPAT, security, and customer requirements.
Customer, Supplier, Cost & Chargeback Management
- Lead investigation and resolution of customer and supplier issues, including delivery/receiving discrepancies, customer relations, and applicable EDI transmission processing.
- Monitor controllable costs, including overtime, labor utilization, material damage, inventory loss, packaging/rack loss, and avoidable rework.
- Identify adverse cost trends, document operational causes, assign corrective actions, and validate realized savings with the Assistant Manager and designated Finance representative.
- Collect and submit evidence of damaged materials or equipment to the Assistant Manager or above for review of potential chargeback claims. Do not independently approve chargebacks unless delegated.
Contractor Interface & Operational Continuity
- Protect production and material flow when contracted pick/linefeed or unload activity fails; identify the risk, notify contractor supervision, and sustain continuity within authorized scope.
- Contractor management retains responsibility for directing contractor labor and managing contractor personnel performance.
- Monitor the sub-line buffer/production board and respond in real time to material shortages, sequence risks, or conditions threatening production continuity.
- Lead containment and recovery for assigned processes; document significant disruptions, notify the appropriate leaders, and verify that recovery actions restore the required condition.
- Escalate unresolved supply, safety, quality, inventory, customer, or equipment risks promptly in accordance with the approved escalation procedure.
KPI Ownership, Reporting & Corrective Action
- Own and report the KPI set assigned to the area. Depending on scope, this may include DC goods receipt under 180 minutes; 515 correct engines loaded into ASRS per shift; inventory accuracy and check completion; empty-return rate; chargeback submission cycle; ASN discrepancy closure; ASRS load timeliness; and Logistics production-downtime contribution under one minute.
- Use the approved goal sheet or KPI standard for each metric’s definition, data source, target, reporting frequency, and escalation trigger. Do not change targets without authorization.
- Review performance each shift, explain misses using verified evidence, assign actions with named owners and due dates, escalate repeated or overdue misses, and verify effectiveness.
- Ensure reports and system transactions are complete, accurate, and submitted on time; promptly correct known data errors through approved processes.
Assigned LP / Engine / ASRS Responsibilities (When Applicable)
- Maintain engine inventory through cycle counts, reconciliation, required daily reporting, and same-shift escalation of discrepancies under the applicable procedure.
- Monitor the Open ASN report and applicable transactions (including ZMMR837, ZMM626, and VL06IG where currently used); verify physical receipt against transmitted ASNs and drive short, over, early, late, or damaged discrepancies to closure within the required timeframe.
- Coordinate engine low-count and late-supply issues with the designated supplier, Glovis, Purchasing, and/or Assistant Manager, following the escalation procedure.
- Control receiving, staging, sequencing, and loading of applicable HMMA, Glovis, and other designated inbound engines into ASRS in accordance with the current goal sheet and standard work.
- For assigned SUB area processes, verify required part levels and confirm correct startup sequence against the MES screen and broadcast sheet.
Shift Handoff & Cross-Shift Continuity
- Provide a documented handoff of open production risks, inventory discrepancies, staffing gaps, equipment issues, pending receipts, customer/supplier issues, and overdue corrective actions.
- For each material open issue, identify the current status, responsible owner, next action, due time where applicable, and escalation status.
- Confirm critical risks are communicated to and acknowledged by the receiving shift; do not treat unresolved repeat issues as new events without reviewing available history.
- Apply consistent standards across shifts and raise cross-shift differences through the Assistant Manager when local resolution is not effective.
