Weekend Shift Supervisor (Part-Time)

Lead a Team that Transforms Lives and Communities

Are you an experienced youth residential supervisor, driven by a passion for youth development, team mentorship, and community impact? Spectrum Child and Family Services is seeking a dynamic, hands-on leader to guide our team at Valor Place, an open residential setting providing 24-hour counseling and educational care to young people aged 15 to 19 in Detroit.

As a Weekend Shift Supervisor, you will do more than manage shifts—you will shape culture, empower frontline staff, and mentor youth through restorative justice and personal accountability. If you excel at clear communication, staff development, and operational excellence, this is your opportunity to lead where it matters most.

How You Will Drive Impact

  • Empower & Coach Staff: Serve as an active, on-the-floor leader who observes shift dynamics, delivers constructive feedback, and fosters the professional growth of Youth Specialists.
  • Ensure Operational Excellence: Manage shift schedules proactively to maintain required staff-to-resident ratios and uphold program standards.
  • Maintain Quality & Compliance: Champion program integrity in alignment with Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) and Child Welfare Licensing requirements.
  • Foster a Restorative Environment: Cultivate a safe, supportive peer community that encourages resident accountability, personal growth, and goal achievement.
  • Collaborate Across Systems: Partner seamlessly with external agencies and stakeholders to support comprehensive care plans and placement requirements.

Qualification Pathways

To qualify for this leadership opportunity, candidates must meet one of the following three pathways:

  • Pathway 1: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university PLUS at least 2 years of professional experience in a child-caring institution.
  • Pathway 2: Two years of accredited college coursework PLUS at least 3 years of professional experience in a child-caring institution.
  • Pathway 3: A High School Diploma (or equivalent) PLUS at least 4 years of professional experience in a child-caring institution.

Additional Requirements

  • Record of no findings on the DHHS Central Registry Clearance.
  • Criminal background check free of felony convictions.
  • Satisfactory physical examination confirming health status (free from communicable diseases, including TB) and physical capability to fulfill job functions.
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation.
