Position SummaryÂ
The Aquatic Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, daily operations, safety, and financial performance of the Aquatics Department. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, inclusive aquatic programs aligned with the YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester mission to eliminate racism and empower women.Â
The role requires a balance of administrative leadership and direct service delivery, ensuring strong program execution, staff performance, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Leadership & DevelopmentÂ
- Direct and oversee all aquatic programs, including:Â Â
- Learn-to-Swim (group and private lessons)Â
- Water fitness programsÂ
- Youth and community-based aquatic programsÂ
- Summer camp aquatics programmingÂ
- Develop, implement, and evaluate programs to meet participation and revenue goalsÂ
- Manage pool scheduling to maximize utilization while maintaining safety standardsÂ
- Ensure instructional quality consistent with American Red Cross or equivalent standardsÂ
- Collaborate closely with the Middies Swim Team Director to coordinate scheduling, shared pool space, and team developmentÂ
- Maintain active engagement in program delivery, dedicating approximately 50% of work time to direct service (instruction, lifeguarding, WSI)Â
2. Pool Operations & Risk ManagementÂ
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and regulatory aquatic safety standardsÂ
- Oversee pool maintenance, water quality, and inspections in partnership with facilities staffÂ
- Develop and enforce emergency action and risk management proceduresÂ
- Monitor incident reporting and implement corrective actions as neededÂ
3. Staff Supervision & Human Resources ManagementÂ
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and supervise aquatic staff, including lifeguards and instructorsÂ
- Develop staff schedules ensuring adequate coverage during all operating hoursÂ
- Ensure all certifications remain current and compliantÂ
- Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action when necessaryÂ
- Facilitate ongoing training and professional developmentÂ
4. Financial ManagementÂ
- Develop and manage annual aquatic department budgetÂ
- Monitor revenue streams (programs, private lessons, rentals) and control expensesÂ
- Track performance against revenue and participation targetsÂ
- Identify opportunities for program growth and earned incomeÂ
5. Community Engagement & Membership ExperienceÂ
- Build partnerships with schools, community organizations, and local stakeholdersÂ
- Promote aquatics programming to increase engagement and retentionÂ
- Support membership growth and satisfactionÂ
- Represent the YWCA in community initiatives and eventsÂ

Requirements
Â
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)Â
- 3–5 years of aquatics management experienceÂ
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experienceÂ
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skillsÂ
- Experience with learn-to-swim programming (American Red Cross or equivalent)Â
Required CertificationsÂ
- Lifeguard Certification (deep water)Â
- CPR/AED and First AidÂ
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalentÂ
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO)Â
Preferred CertificationsÂ
- American Red Cross WSI Trainer (WSIT)Â
- Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)Â
- Lifeguard Management certificationÂ
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Experience in nonprofit or community-based organizationsÂ
- Experience managing multi-use aquatic facilitiesÂ

Work Environment & ScheduleÂ
- Includes indoor pool and office environmentÂ
- Requires standing, walking, and active participation in aquatic programsÂ

Physical RequirementsÂ
- Ability to perform lifeguarding and swim instruction dutiesÂ

Compensation & BenefitsÂ
- Salary: $65,000-$70,000
