Overview / Job Summary:

The Adjunct Faculty, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), is responsible for providing instruction and supporting student learning within the Emergency Medical Services program. This position delivers engaging, hands-on instruction that prepares students to apply essential emergency care knowledge and skills in the field. The adjunct faculty member works closely with students and program faculty to create a positive learning environment and support student success.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary, but are not limited to:

  • Submits all scholastic records by the established due date.
  • Evaluates students to measure their progress toward the achievement of course outcomes/competencies.
  • Manages and supervises students in all assigned classroom and laboratory activities to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Maintains industry credentials as appropriate to the teaching area.
  • Ensures that each program/class meets the WSU Tech Course Standard, includes all appropriate curricular components, utilizes effective teaching methods/practices (pedagogy) and reflects current field practices.
  • Maintains an effective learning environment regardless of instructional modality (online, hybrid, or face to face).  Demonstrates lab skills in a manner consistent with lesson objectives.
  • Engages with the appropriate staff members (Success Coaches, Disability services etc.) to assist with student success.
  • Performs other duties as necessary at the discretion of the Program Director and/or Dean of Health Sciences.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills Needed:

  • Current Kansas Emergency Medical Technician License or Kansas Paramedic License required.
  • 3 year’s work experience in industry, preferred.
  • Will maintain current EMS certification.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Obtains at own expense yearly TB test and other immunizations or physical examinations as required by clinical sites.
  • Knowledgeable of the laws, regulations, and administrative processes affecting local, regional, and state pre-hospital emergency medical services systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of the proper safety and handling of materials used in the field.
  • Previous teaching or training experience in adult education preferred.
  • Must be available for required course assignments.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills – must be able to work with students, technical and administrative personnel in a pleasant, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
