Job Summary
The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. In a Catholic school setting, the substitute also supports the faith-based mission of the school by modeling respectful behavior, reinforcing Catholic values, and helping maintain a positive, structured learning environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher
- Deliver instruction and supervise students in a variety of grade levels (e.g., K–8)
- Maintain classroom order and uphold school discipline policies
- Create a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment
- Take attendance and manage classroom routines
- Adapt to different classroom settings, subjects, and age groups as needed
- Communicate relevant information about the day to the regular teacher and administration
- Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, or dismissal as assigned
- Support and participate respectfully in school prayer or religious activities
Job Requirements
- Substitute teaching permit or state certification (as required by state/diocese)
- Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting
- Ability to follow directions and manage a classroom effectively
