Role Purpose

The Fiber Capital Programs (FCP) department within the Advanced Manufacturing Technology group (AMT) is expanding its technical team and seeking a Senior Mechanical Technician to provide hands-on mechanical discipline support across the full lifecycle of manufacturing equipment — from installation and commissioning through startup and turnover to operations. You’ll work directly on the floor at domestic and international manufacturing sites, directing contract trades and driving equipment readiness on active project teams. This is a field-forward, technically demanding role for someone who brings deep mechanical expertise and a strong focus on safety and precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on mechanical support across construction, installation, debug, and startup of equipment and automated systems through turnover to operations
  • Assess condition and usability of existing equipment; execute initial setup and debug to turnover
  • Direct outside contract trades during installation, conversion, demolition, testing, and debug phases
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting; replace defective components and execute changes to resolve equipment and process issues
  • Create, review, and update installation documentation, checklists, drawings, machine specs, and drawing packages; coordinate with drafting services as needed
  • Procure and expedite materials; develop and use project plans and timelines to achieve goals without sacrificing safety, intellectual property, or quality

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Associate of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology with 5+ years of industry experience; Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering; or equivalent industry experience.
  • Ability to work hands-on with equipment using standard hand tools, instruments, and measurement/alignment devices
  • Experience interpreting drawings and schematics to support troubleshooting
  • Understanding of process variables including flow, temperature, rate, pressure, and level
  • Demonstrated focus on job site safety in a manufacturing or construction environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally; travel may be full-time during active equipment deployment phases

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with precision measurement tools (e.g., tape measures, calipers, micrometers)
  • Prior experience working on a manufacturing floor or in a construction environment
