Status: Part-Time, 7 hours/week

Hiring Rate: $18.00


 Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Pro-rated based on hours/week.

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.


The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences, and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy enrolling over 550 students annually. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five-state region.


PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south-central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural and outdoor recreation region. General Summary:

  

The OMO Student Ambassador will assist the Office of Mission and Opportunity in the planning, promotion, and execution of campus wide events, lunch and learns, and activities that advance the university's commitment to equity, community partnership, and health professions pipeline development. The Ambassador will work in direct collaboration with student clubs, the Student Government Association (SGA), and campus affinity groups to build community engagement and student participation in OMO programming. This position is open to currently enrolled first and second year PNWU students.


Essential Job Functions:

  

  • Assist OMO staff in the planning and coordination of campus wide events that promote the office's mission, including community engagement, equity, and health professions pipeline initiatives.
  • Support outreach to prospective keynote speakers and presenters, including drafting invitations and coordinating logistics under staff direction.
  • Develop and distribute event promotion materials across campus channels, including flyers, digital signage, email announcements, and social media, in a positive and professional manner.
  • Serve as a liaison between OMO and student clubs, SGA, and affinity groups to encourage collaboration, gather feedback, and coordinate co-sponsored events.
  • Assist with mentoring and supporting students involved in health professions pipeline programs by sharing experiences, providing encouragement, and helping connect them with campus resources and opportunities.
  • Attend and provide on-site support during OMO events, including setup, check-in, and breakdown, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.

Requirements


Education and Experience:

  • Required: Must be a currently enrolled PNWU student in the first or second year of an academic program.
  • Preferred Experience: Previous involvement in event planning, student leadership, or campus clubs and organizations; experience serving as a mentor, tutor, orientation leader, peer advisor, student leader, or active participant in campus activities.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate professionally and positively with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse student organizations and campus partners.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple event-related projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for events.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills, with a commitment to creating a positive event experience for participants and guests.
