Pay Rate: $26.00/hour I Hours: 29.5 hours per week I Supervisor: Director of Educational Services I Location: York City School District I Classification: Part-Time/Contingent/non-exempt I Schedule: Monday through Friday except for parent-teacher conference days and 6 designated early dismissal days; approximately 6 hours per workday. Also includes 5 designated days of professional development.
For the 2026-2027 school year, the program runs from August 2026, through the end of May 2027. (Not to exceed 174 days of instruction).
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Reading Interventionist works with kindergarten through eighth grade students in small groups to improve skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students are selected to work with literacy interventionist because they are below grade level in literacy.Â
Candidate must enjoy being a team player and providing excellent care and service to a diverse population. The candidate should have the ability to interact with staff, families and students in a manner that demonstrates respect and dignity, and the ability to solve problems in a professional manner.
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in education OR enrolled in a teacher education undergraduate program OR two years of full-time post-secondary studyÂ
- Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification (preferred)Â
- Knowledge or experience in best practice literacy conceptsÂ
- Candidate must have current (within 1 year) PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, Act 168 Clearance (if applicable), and Mandated Reporter Training Certificate
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Actively supervise children at all times/maintain ratio at all times when possibleÂ
- Understand and be able to implement school expectations and PBIS programmingÂ
- Participate in events that promote the partnership between Contractor and the School District of the City of YorkÂ
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Curriculum and Instruction and ContractorÂ
KNOWLEDGE, GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT
- Have knowledge of educational components or willingness to learn and implement best practices in literacy instructionÂ
- Actively participate in data cycles with MTSS SpecialistÂ
- Actively participate in professional development in best practices in literacyÂ
CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION & ASSESSMENT
- Collaborate weekly with teachers on unit topics and current, grade level eligible contentÂ
- Instruct small group literacy lessons with studentsÂ
- Collect, analyze, and maintain accurate records of student attendance and progress using screening (IXL, Acadience, etc.) and formative assessmentsÂ
COMMUNICATION & BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with teachers and staffÂ
- Communicate instructional concerns and child concerns with the teacher who will contact supervisors/coaches if neededÂ
- Complete Behavior Tracking Forms on students as needed Â
- Keep accurate records for all student contactsÂ
- Provide support for the emotional needs of students in a manner that demonstrates cultural relevance, respect, and dignity
