  • The Behavioral Health Counselor is responsible for facilitating individual and group counseling sessions for residents with mental health and substance abuse issues.
  • Candidates must hold a Master's Degree in counseling, social work, or a related field, along with independent licensure in Ohio as an L.P.C.C. or L.I.S.W.
  • Prior experience in mental health and substance abuse services is required for this position.
  • The role includes submitting monthly reports, attending treatment team meetings, and providing crisis intervention services as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Interactions with clients reflect competency in counseling and assessment and advance the goals set forth in the ITP
  • Complete Diagnostic Assessment, formulation and implementation of ITP, progress notes, transfer/closing summary
  • Conduct individual, couples, family and/or group counseling (Mental Health and/or SUD)
  • Conduct CPST/TBS and/or SUD Case Management services (as applicable)
  • Judgements made about clients or activities on clients’ behalf are client/family-centered and appropriate both to the individuals’ functioning and the agency’s risk tolerance standards 
  • Able to meet or exceed Agency’s service delivery requirements
  • Make appropriate decisions pertaining to client’s need for additional services, resources or more restrictive settings
  • Make appropriate choice of treatment modalities, interventions and techniques
  • Pursues collateral contacts to gather additional psychosocial information when indicated
  • Utilizes supervision and/or consultation to mitigate risk and seek input re: challenging circumstances
  • Utilizes knowledge of agency and community services to coordinate care and/or link clients/families to additional resources to support recovery
  • Documentation is clinically accurate, substantive, timely and complete
  • Conforms to Program, ODMHAS, CARF and third-party payer standards and obligations
  • Clearly conveys medical necessity for all services rendered
  • Interactions with stakeholders are constructive and serves to advance the progress in treatment, the quality of care and the agency’s standing in the community
  • Participates actively and productively in agency meetings and supervision sessions
  • Introduces and/or implements new ideas for improving the quality of care
  • Attentive/responsive to feedback from clients, significant others, community partners/members
  • Shares skills, knowledge, expertise with other agency staff (consultations, workshops, team meeting)
  • Advances own level of skill and competency through participation in continuing education opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling or Social Work and licensed in the State of Ohio (LPC or LSW). 
  • Two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Professional, organizational skills, ease in establishing rapport, cultural sensitivity



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds.
