At Leonardo Helicopters we are responsible for the design of the complete air vehicle and working within the team you will have the ability to participate in all phases of the product design life cycle from participating in leading edge innovation to supporting aging aircraft.

As part of the Defensive Systems Team the role requires an experienced engineer who has significant capability in the operation, usage, loading and management of weapon systems and explosive devices and can also support the design, development and certification of the associated equipment.

Key Responsibility AreasThe candidate will plan and execute test and integration activities to support system development and qualification.

They will produce and approve documentation to support airworthiness clearance, qualification and Certification of Armament Systems, be able to plan and execute Armament trials on Ranges in the UK and overseas, all while taking into account all aspects of armament safety.

The candidate will provide support to aircraft programmes, including Operations, by undertaking loading and unloading of weapon systems, including the development of the associated procedures where necessary.

The candidate will be part of the team managing the Armament and Explosive Stores and their contents, in accordance with company processes and UK statutory requirements.

The candidate will be responsible for detailed mechanical, electrical and avionic design and specification of Armament Systems, including the preparation of specifications and statements of work for vendor products and be responsible for the oversight of vendor engineering activities that support Armament Systems development including review and approval of vendor designs, test procedures and qualification/certification documentationProgressionThis is a great opportunity to bring your talents and form an integral part of Leonardo's future.

For more information and guidance please visit : Skills, Qualification & Knowledge RequiredTo perform the role you will work well in a team and be flexible and adaptable, you will have:Degree in a relevant subject (e.

g. Aerospace, Avionic, Mechanical, Electronic, Software or Electrical Engineering) or HNC/HND/BTEC and Apprenticeship in similar subjects.Recent, practical, specialist, aircraft armourer experience gained in the armed services, totalling at least five years, and preferably backed by relevant qualifications.

Background knowledge and experience in some of the following areas: - Armament Systems Design and Control;
- Aircraft Armament and Carriage Equipment;
- Mechanical and Structural Design;
- Vibration and Fatigue;
- Mass Properties;
- Aircraft and Armament Trials;
- Firearms and Explosives Legislation.

Advantageous in this role are:Specific in-depth knowledge and recent experience in the design, development, integration and qualification of Armament Systems.Specific knowledge and experience of aircraft armament safety regulations and procedures.Legal requirements for the acquisition, storage, handling, transfer and disposal of firearms and explosives.

Evidence of working in a regulated environment with knowledge of airworthiness regulations eg MAA or EASA.The ability to own problems and provide pragmatic solutions to challenging timescales and budgets.

The ability to use the MS Office suite. Also desirable would be knowledge of:Satisfy the requirements of an external peer review by a recognised professional organ
