Are you an expert in fixed assets who enjoys making sense of complex capital portfolios? Do you want to lead a team and own the end-to-end asset accounting process for a multi-billion-pound organisation? Ready for a role that combines technical challenge, leadership, and collaboration across a wide and varied project base? If yes, read on!
We’re working with a large and complex public sector organisation to recruit a Senior Capital Accountant. Based South of Oxford (3 days per week on-site), this role offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of a major fixed asset register valued at over £2 billion, including significant capital projects and assets under construction.
The key duties of this Senior Capital Accountant are as follows:
- Lead a small, capable team including apprentices and qualified accountants
- Manage the day-to-day operation and integrity of the Fixed Asset Register
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, FReM, and internal policy on capitalisation and asset controls
- Work closely with Project Managers and Finance Business Partners to understand project spend and capital implications
- Oversee asset componentisation, aggregation, impairment reviews, and disposals
- Take the lead on capital audit preparation and fixed asset disclosures in the statutory accounts
- Contribute to capital forecasting, provisioning, and year-end reporting
- Act as the organisation’s subject matter expert on all things capital
This isn’t just about maintaining a register – it’s about bringing clarity and control to a highly complex environment. The organisation has a wide variety of assets, some of which are highly specialist and not typical of most finance roles. You’ll be working in an organisation that’s constantly investing, evolving, and innovating – and you’ll play a crucial part in making sure its financial systems keep pace.
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong hands-on experience in fixed asset accounting – including depreciation, impairment reviews, disposals, and reconciliations
- Confidence working with senior non-finance stakeholders to explain accounting treatment and policy
- Achieved their full accountancy qualification or be part qualified.
- Experience managing or mentoring others
If you’re looking for a rewarding next step in capital finance, with the opportunity to shape processes and lead on a complex portfolio, we’d love to hear from you.
