This growing business is seeking a talented Financial Controller to join a dynamic team and play a crucial role in managing and improving their financial operations.

Job Summary: The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and driving financial performance. This role requires a proactive and strategic thinker. Ideally, they will have a good understanding of the construction and residential housebuilding sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the production of and provide first line review of the monthly management accounts in accordance with the month end timetable.
  • Provide a full explanation of significant variances to Budget and discuss remedial actions.
  • Embed control account reconciliation processes, with a systematic approach that ensures each month’s closing trial balance is fully supported with a suite of balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Lead the budgeting and reforecasting processes, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support business decisions and strategic initiatives on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Ensure compliance with UK financial regulations, accounting standards (UK GAAP/IFRS), and company policies.
  • Provide a monthly reconciliation of plot income movements, investigating adverse movements and securing satisfactory explanations.
  • Liaise with external auditors to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Monitor departmental resource levels, ensuring appropriately trained and qualified staff to deliver required volumes. Supervise and mentor the finance team, promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems (COINS) and software to improve financial processes.
  • Produce draft content for a monthly debrief with the Group and Divisional FDs, and for a quarterly Regional MD debrief.

Qualifications

  • Qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
  • Commitment to accuracy and a diligent approach to accounts production.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in a financial management role, preferably within the UK construction or residential housebuilding industry.
  • Strong knowledge of UK financial regulations, accounting principles, and financial reporting standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience of COINS would be advantageous.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
