Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly competent and safety-focused Focal Point On-Site Machinist to oversee and carry out precision machining operations on a nuclear construction site. This role acts as the primary technical and operational liaison for all field machining activities, ensuring compliance with strict nuclear industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in portable/on-site machining, excellent coordination skills, and the ability to lead teams in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the on-site lead for all machining operations, coordinating between site teams, subcontractors, engineering, and quality assurance.
Execute and oversee machining tasks such as flange facing, pipe preparation, bore welding prep, line boring, and milling with portable machine tools.
Ensure all work complies with nuclear construction codes, project specifications, and safety regulations (e.g., ASME, RCC-M, or applicable site codes).
Lead toolbox talks, risk assessments, and daily activity briefings to promote a strong safety and quality culture.
Review and interpret engineering drawings, isometric piping diagrams, and work packages.
Maintain and manage machining equipment, tooling, and calibration certificates in line with nuclear QA/QC procedures.
Monitor progress, report status updates to management, and resolve any operational or technical challenges on site.
Liaise with inspection teams and ensure machining documentation (ITPs, NCRs, weld maps, machining logs) is accurate and up to date.
Support integration of machining activities with welding, pipefitting, and pressure testing schedules.
Mentor junior machinists and ensure training and competency assessments are maintained.

Requirements:
Education and Experience:
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Machining, or related trade.
Minimum 5 years of experience in field/on-site machining, with at least 2 years in a nuclear or highly regulated environment.
Experience with construction or maintenance projects in nuclear new build (e.g., EPR, AP1000, SMR) is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in using portable/on-site machining tools.
Familiarity with nuclear QA/QC documentation and welding support operations.
Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings to nuclear standards.
Certifications & Clearances:
CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport (Required)
ASME/EN welding or machining codes awareness (preferred)
Behavioral Competencies:

High attention to detail and commitment to procedural compliance
Ability to work under pressure in a complex, fast-paced construction environment
Proven track record in fostering a positive safety and quality culture

Working Conditions:
Based on a nuclear construction site with strict access and conduct protocols.
May involve extended shifts, rotation schedules, and weekend work.
Standing, climbing, and lifting may be frequent as part of operational duties.
