Design Engineer - Steel & Timber

East Midlands | Hybrid Working

Salary up to 55,000 DOE

An exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer to join a growing hybrid structures design team, working across both steel and timber projects.

You will be responsible for delivering structural designs for main members, connections, and temporary works, while leading on technical compliance and supporting best practice across the wider team.







Key Responsibilities

  • Structural design of steel and timber elements for tender and contract stages

  • Connection, member, and temporary works design

  • Initial project design, including clear assumptions and build sequences

  • Review and check design work produced by others

  • Application and interpretation of relevant design codes and guidance (including EC3 and EC5)

  • Use of 3D models to extract and interpret design information

  • Preparation of technical documentation, calculations, and written design reports

  • Attendance at client, tender, and post-tender meetings, with accurate records and follow-up actions

  • Support colleagues with technical queries and contribute to continuous improvement of design systems







Skills & Experience

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a wider project team

  • Strong technical and analytical skills with a proactive, collaborative mindset

  • Competent in design software and Microsoft Office

  • Experience with structural modelling and analysis tools such as Tekla Structures, Robot, or similar

  • Willingness to adopt new methods and systems of work
