Overview:
Turner Lovell is seeking a SCADA Commissioning Engineer to support the commissioning phases of high-voltage (132kV, 275kV, and 400kV) substation projects in Scotland. The role focuses on signal testing, integration validation, and on-site troubleshooting of SCADA and control systems. You will work in live substation environments, ensuring systems meet operational and safety standards before handover.
The successful candidate will join a leading international EPC contractor, delivering large-scale energy infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland, with a strong focus on renewable integration and grid modernisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute comprehensive SCADA commissioning activities, including signal verification, RTU configuration checks, and I/O validation.
- Perform point-to-point signal testing across RTUs, HMIs, protection relays, and field devices.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve communication and integration faults during commissioning.
- Validate SCADA system performance against client specifications and interface requirements (IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104).
- Interface with protection, control, and SCADA design teams to resolve technical issues on-site.
- Maintain accurate records of test results, configuration changes, and commissioning reports.
- Ensure full compliance with SPEN safety protocols, working under CAT 1 authorisation in operational substations.
- Support project teams in resolving outstanding issues and facilitating smooth handover to the client.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in SCADA commissioning for high-voltage substations.
- Strong working knowledge of IEC 61850 and IEC 60870-5-101/104 communication protocols.
- Proven experience with RTUs, PLCs, IEDs, and associated SCADA software platforms in a substation context.
- Hands-on experience conducting signal testing and final-stage commissioning in 132kV-400kV environments.
- Valid CAT 1 (SPEN) authorisation - mandatory.
- Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or a related field.
