Design Manager - North West (Tier 1 Contractor)

Location: North West, UK
Sector: Construction / Design Management
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our expanding North West team within a leading Tier 1 main contractor. This is a key role within our regional operations, overseeing the design coordination and delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects including local authority, Ministry of Defence (MoD), commercial, high-rise residential, and government-backed schemes.

Working closely with pre-construction, technical, and project delivery teams, you will take ownership of the design process - ensuring that innovative, buildable, and commercially viable solutions are delivered to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the design process from tender through to handover.

  • Lead design meetings with consultants, clients, and internal stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with client requirements, statutory regulations, and company procedures.

  • Review and manage design deliverables to meet programme, cost, and quality targets.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams.

  • Drive collaboration between design, procurement, and construction functions.

  • Manage design risk and change control processes effectively.

About You

We are looking for a proactive and solutions-focused professional with:

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor, or a strong regional contractor.

  • A solid understanding of design management processes across multiple sectors.

  • Experience working on public sector, MoD, and complex commercial or high-rise projects.

  • Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.

  • A keen eye for detail and commitment to delivering excellence.

  • Relevant qualifications in architecture, engineering, or construction management (preferred).

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.

  • Opportunity to work with a leading national contractor on prestigious regional projects.

  • Supportive, collaborative team culture with real scope for career progression.

  • Exposure to high-value, technically challenging projects across the North West.
