Head of Transformation and Change Risk (SME) and Transformation Business Partner

The purpose of this role is to provide Group Transformation and Change risk management expertise and act as a business partner to the Transformation Office, Group Change, and any other Enterprise-wide Change function acting as the technical expert on Transformation and Change Risk within the Groupwide oversight team in line with requirements.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Policies and Frameworks

Establish, implement, and maintain relevant Change Risk frameworks and policies. Maintain groupwide relevant training documents and provide training sessions as required on relevant framework and policy requirements. Act as SME for relevant systems in line with requirements, .

  • Risk Advice and Opinion

Provide or co-ordinate independent views and opinions to the 1st line senior management on all change and transformation risk matters. This includes providing SME risk oversight and advice to the Transformation Office/Major Change capability on the delivery of complex transformational and strategic change projects, demonstrating knowledge around such programmes, commercial awareness, customer orientation, complex stakeholder communication and influencing, flexibility and change orientation, judgement and analysis. The role to also monitor risk events and issues as they arise to ensure timely and appropriate action is taken.

  • 2nd Line Liaison

Build strong working relationships with other 2nd line teams including Group Risk, Risk Operations, Advisory, business partners, and assurance. Ensure groupwide policies and frameworks are understood and provide feedback as appropriate.> Ensure the provision of MI is delivered to a high quality and within SLA, feed into the annual plan agreeing appropriate resourcing support, coordination of change regulatory requests,, feed into the annual assurance plan for the relevant business unit(s) and support the coordination of assurance activity, share best practice, and understand whether there is any read across from change/transformation risk events and issues in line with company requirements.

  • Risk Governance

Role model the requirements of the risk governance structure by escalating to risk senior leadership in a timely manner where there is a material change to the business's risk profile. , Attending 1st and 2nd line change management and committee meetings, speaking up and constructively challenging as appropriate. Providing high-quality commentary on risk MI and reports to ensure that senior leadership and Boards have full visibility of the business's change risk profile, risk events and issues, and progress on actions.

  • Emerging Risk:

Keep abreast of changes in applicable law and regulation, groupwide policies and frameworks, and business strategy, plans and activities; assess impacts for the Transformation and Change functions; and ensure that changes required to meet regulatory standards are implemented by the business.

  • Risk Oversight

Ensure the 1st line change and transformation teams understand and embed the L&G risk policies and frameworks, including the minimum key controls for change/transformation. This includes ensuring that the setting of risk appetite metrics, enterprise risk scoring, risk and control self-assessments, product lifecycle management and appropriate use of L&G's risk management system are delivered in line with groupwide requirements.

  • Provide change risk oversight, constructively challenging stakeholders to drive improved change risk management across their transformation and change programmes.

Consumer Duty - Promoting a positive and open risk culture across the Transformation and Change Office. Promoting a culture that prioritises the fair treatment of all customers, including those who are vulnerable or have changing needs, whilst also ensuring that governance, processes, and systems support staff to meet the needs of all customers.

  • People Management - To take the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group's policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.

Qualifications, knowledge and skills:

SME knowledge and Experience of transformational or large strategic change programmes and the risks that need to be managed.

Desirable - Prince 2/APMP Qualification; Agile and Scrum; Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt or relevant experience.

Knowledge The financial services marketplace, relevant products and services, including regulatory environment and impact on change.

Demonstrates SME knowledge on the delivery of transformational or large strategic change programmes, the risks that need to be managed and the change management disciplines incorporating for example, Waterfall, Agile, Automation and Lean Process Improvement

Strong understanding of control design including IT and digital systems for transformation and change.

Understands managing change risk in line with change risk appetite.

Experience:

Experience is required of:

  • Working on large, complex, multi-supplier transformation/change projects, either in 1st or 2nd line capacity, providing SME advice, monitoring and oversight in financial sector. This includes being product and technology savvy with the aptitude to risk partner to the TO/Change and IT on their delivery of pragmatic and cost effective solutions.
  • Design and implementation of change risk frameworks and use of effective risk management practices to deliver improvements to 1st line change risk management.

Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully engage and influence senior stakeholders, including the ability to work with differing levels of stakeholders.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to work independently, oversee multiple projects, prioritise and manage a high volume of workload and reporting deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly articulate issues and risks and form accurate and non-misleading risk opinions.
  • Good presentation, communication and reporting skills.

  • Stakeholder management: Establish and maintain effective long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders including board members, senior business management, Group Risk, Group Internal Audit and external organisations such as the PRA, FCA and rating agencies with the ability to positively challenge stakeholders on risk management points, maintaining strong relationships.
  • People Management: Experience of overseeing and coaching individuals from pooled resource teams to deliver complex, technical output.
