Project Manager - Substations & HV Switchgear

Rate: £500 - £600 per day (contract and permanent opportunities available)

Turner Lovell are recruiting a skilled Project Manager to join a leading EPC contractor delivering a series of high-voltage substation projects across Southern England. This position will play a key role in the successful delivery of complete design and build packages focused on the installation of HV switchgear and GIS equipment, with responsibility for commercial oversight, coordination of supply chain and subcontractors, and interfacing with clients and key stakeholders.
Key duties:
- Manage full scope D&B and installation works for HV substation components, with an emphasis on GIS and switchgear systems.
- Oversee project planning, delivery, and site coordination across multiple non-simultaneous sites.
- Lead the procurement process of critical electrical equipment in collaboration with clients and supply chain partners.
- Interface regularly with network operators and clients for design approval, scheduling, and compliance management.
- Provide high-level coordination of subcontractors and vendors, while working with dedicated site teams for on-site delivery.
- Maintain strong financial and contractual control of assigned projects, ensuring performance aligns with commercial targets.
- Ensure high safety, quality, and environmental standards throughout project lifecycle.
Requirements:
- 5+ years' experience delivering HV substation projects (132kV-400kV) in the UK, preferably including GIS/switchgear installations.
- Proven ability to manage project values exceeding £5M from concept through to commissioning.
- Strong commercial and contract management experience within the energy or utilities sector.
- Skilled in client and stakeholder management, ideally with experience working alongside DNOs or TNOs.
- Familiarity with UK electrical infrastructure standards and EPC project delivery models.
- Project Management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, PMI) desirable.
- Willingness to travel to multiple project sites within the southern region as required.
