About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of flight critical valves and fluid control components for aerospace launch vehicle applications. This role will act as an interim Product Owner, managing the full product lifecycle from concept and design through to manufacturing, integration, and testing.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring these systems meet stringent performance, reliability, and safety requirements across a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and operating environments.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead the mechanical design and development of flight critical valves and fluid components for propulsion and fluid management systems.
-
Act as an interim Product Owner, overseeing the design lifecycle from current state through to qualification and production readiness.
-
Support system integration activities, collaborating closely with the integration team to ensure seamless incorporation into the aerospace vehicle.
-
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, test plans, and configuration data.
-
Perform or oversee FEA and CFD analyses to validate designs under mechanical, thermal, and fluid loading.
-
Apply principles of DFM, DFA, and DFT to ensure manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and testability.
-
Drive design reviews and provide technical guidance across the multidisciplinary engineering team.
About You
-
Degree qualified in Mechanical, Aerospace,or a related Engineering discipline.
-
Strong experience in mechanical design of systems operating under varying temperature, pressure, and fluid conditions.
-
Solid understanding of key mechanical engineering principles including kinematics, tribology, strength of materials, mechanics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
-
Proficient in SolidWorks for 3D design, with experience in simulation tools such as SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS (FEA/CFD).
-
Demonstrated capability in numerical modelling to predict and optimise design outcomes.
-
Proven experience in hydraulic system design and component development.
-
Experience with cryogenic systems or fluid components in low-temperature environments is highly desirable.
-
Familiarity with full product lifecycle management, from concept to test and qualification.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a collaborative and proactive working style.
