Overview:
Buckingham Futures is seeking experiencedHMO and Damp & Mould Inspection Officersto support our client's initiative in raising housing standards through proactive property inspections and responsive complaint management. These crucial roles involve the inspection of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and the investigation of damp and mould issues to protect tenants' health and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct proactive inspections of HMOs to ensure properties meet statutory standards and licensing conditions.

  • Investigate complaints related to damp and mould, identifying root causes and recommending remedial actions.

  • Engage with landlords, tenants, and property managers to advise on legal responsibilities and best practices.

  • Draft reports, enforcement notices, and correspondence in accordance with legal and procedural requirements.

  • Support the development and delivery of public awareness campaigns focused on damp and mould prevention.

  • Collaborate with Environmental Health and Housing teams to share insights and improve service delivery.

  • Maintain detailed inspection records, photographic evidence, and action plans in council databases.

  • Represent the local authority at meetings, tribunals, or court as required.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven background in housing inspections, enforcement, property maintenance, or environmental health.

  • Solid understanding of HMO legislation, the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), and housing standards.

  • Experience handling high volumes of inspections and tenant complaints.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to engage sensitively and clearly with diverse audiences.

  • A proactive, investigative mindset with strong problem-solving skills.

  • You do not need to be a qualified Environmental Health Officer, but you must have substantial relevant experience in housing-related inspection roles.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with health and safety legislation related to housing.

  • Experience in public health communication or community education programmes.

  • Knowledge of local authority processes, systems, and multi-agency working.
