Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced HV Plant CDAE Engineer to support high-voltage substation projects across the UK. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with National Grid experience, looking for flexible working arrangements and a contract outside IR35.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead or support Control, Design and Engineering (CDAE) activities for HV substations (typically 132kV to 400kV).
  • Develop and review single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
  • Ensure designs comply with National Grid TP standards, ENA guidelines, and relevant BS/IEC standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams to deliver design packages, technical specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Provide technical input during design reviews, site surveys, and commissioning phases.
  • Liaise with stakeholders including National Grid, contractors, and consultants to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Support CDM and safety requirements throughout the design lifecycle.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience in HV plant design and CDAE roles.
  • Strong working knowledge of National Grid specifications and procedures.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Engineering Base, or similar design tools.
  • Understanding of protection and control systems, SCADA, and telecommunications in HV environments.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deliverables to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.


Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
  • Experience with AIS/GIS substations, transformer bays, and busbar configurations.
  • Knowledge of Grid Code, G99, and system studies.
