Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced HV Plant CDAE Engineer to support high-voltage substation projects across the UK. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with National Grid experience, looking for flexible working arrangements and a contract outside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead or support Control, Design and Engineering (CDAE) activities for HV substations (typically 132kV to 400kV).
Develop and review single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
Ensure designs comply with National Grid TP standards, ENA guidelines, and relevant BS/IEC standards.
Collaborate with project teams to deliver design packages, technical specifications, and engineering reports.
Provide technical input during design reviews, site surveys, and commissioning phases.
Liaise with stakeholders including National Grid, contractors, and consultants to ensure alignment and compliance.
Support CDM and safety requirements throughout the design lifecycle.

Requirements:

Proven experience in HV plant design and CDAE roles.
Strong working knowledge of National Grid specifications and procedures.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Engineering Base, or similar design tools.
Understanding of protection and control systems, SCADA, and telecommunications in HV environments.
Ability to work independently and manage deliverables to tight deadlines.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Desirable:

Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
Experience with AIS/GIS substations, transformer bays, and busbar configurations.
Knowledge of Grid Code, G99, and system studies.
