Naval Architect - Hydrodynamics & Vessel Performance
Location: Flexible, with occasional travel in the UK and overseas
Are you ready to take the lead on complex vessel performance projects and push the boundaries of marine engineering? We're looking for a talented Naval Architect to deliver innovative design, analysis and testing solutions across a range of vessel types.
The Role
You'll oversee technical delivery across hydrodynamic performance, model testing, and sea trials-supporting major marine design projects from concept through to validation. Acting as a key technical lead, you'll engage directly with clients, manage subcontractors, and ensure all work meets the highest engineering and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with clients to understand requirements and develop costed technical proposals

  • Manage technical delivery, progress, and risk across multi-disciplinary projects

  • Coordinate model tests, sea trials, and onboard surveys

  • Support and mentor team members in hydrodynamic and performance analysis

  • Ensure compliance with best practice, statutory, and quality standards

About You
You'll bring a strong engineering background and hands-on experience in vessel performance evaluation, with the confidence to lead projects and shape technical outcomes.
Essential:

  • Degree (BEng/MEng/MSc) in Naval Architecture or similar engineering discipline

  • Proven understanding of hydrodynamic performance through simulation, testing, or trials

  • Ability to travel within the UK and internationally at short notice

Desirable:

  • Experience leading CFD, model testing, and shipboard trials

  • Knowledge of DP assessment, noise/vibration analysis, and ITTC/ISO performance standards

  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status (RINA or equivalent)

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Rhino, SolidWorks, Python, FineMarine, or openFOAM

If you thrive on technical challenge and want to shape the future of vessel performance, we'd love to hear from you.
