Senior Product Designer

Are you a hands-on, technically minded Product Designer who thrives on solving complex challenges and bringing ideas to life? A leading UK product design and manufacturing business is expanding its team and is seeking a Senior Product Designer with strong engineering capability and creative maturity to help drive the next phase of growth.

About the Role

You’ll join a highly collaborative, design-led environment based in Hampshire, working from an inspiring studio space designed for focus, teamwork, and hands-on experimentation. The site includes modern facilities, workshop access, breakout areas, and even an on-site gym.

As a Senior Product Designer, you’ll take ownership of technically complex, high-performance products from early concept through to production readiness. You’ll have the opportunity to work across a diverse project portfolio spanning commercial, professional, health, and consumer sectors.

What You’ll Be Doing as a Product Design Engineer:

  • Leading the design and development of products from early exploration to production-ready output.

  • Balancing creative ideation with practical engineering rigour across the full product lifecycle.

  • Validating concepts through CAD simulations, prototypes, rigs, and hands-on workshop testing.

  • Owning the engineering detail—mechanisms, assemblies, materials, and tolerances—to ensure robust, manufacturable solutions.

  • Producing clear design intent, engineering documentation, test reports, and client presentation materials.

  • Collaborating closely with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

  • Contributing positively to a high-performing, multidisciplinary team.

About You as a Product Design Engineer:

You’re an experienced designer who thinks like an engineer but creates like a designer—balancing feasibility, performance, and user experience.

You will bring:

  • Broad industry experience across multiple sectors.

  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, and taking products from prototype to production.

  • Confidence building prototypes, rigs, and functional setups to validate assumptions.

  • A curiosity-driven mindset that questions briefs, identifies constraints, and uncovers opportunities.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact confidently with clients and stakeholders.

  • A collaborative approach, a positive attitude, and the ability to support a high-performing studio culture.

Tools & Experience

  • High proficiency in SolidWorks for complex assemblies, detailed components, and engineering drawings (FEA/CFD exposure beneficial).

  • Strong visual communication skills—sketching, CAD visuals, presentations—with a refined eye for form and detail.

  • Experience integrating electronics, sensors, and microcontroller-based prototypes (Arduino/Raspberry Pi a bonus).

  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Suite and MS Office.

  • Practical workshop skills and confidence building physical prototypes.

Experience & Education

  • Degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.

  • 5 years’ industry experience.

  • Proven experience taking physical products through the full design-to-production journey.

What’s on Offer

  • A full-time role based in a modern, purpose-designed Hampshire studio.

  • Flexi-time around core hours and a half-day on Fridays.

  • Salary dependent on experience — the business will start by understanding your expectations.

  • Opportunities to grow and develop within a high-calibre, innovative environment.
