Our client, a diverse group of businesses encompassing various trading entities, charities, UK corporates, trusts, and subsidiaries based in the Scottish Borders, is highly reputable and well-established, supported by an experienced senior leadership team. They have created a new role for a Head of Finance / Company Secretary to assist the directors and the broader business, ensuring succession planning to future-proof the company from a financial perspective. The role involves accounting and taxation responsibilities, including oversight of ledger maintenance, invoicing, accounts payable, preparation and review of management and statutory accounts, VAT and partial exemption calculations, and corporation tax. Governance duties include filing returns, maintaining registers, and organising and recording board meetings. The successful candidate will supervise and develop a small finance team, liaise with professional advisors, provide advice to directors and other entities, manage investment activities, property management, and other associated business activities such as HR, payroll, and IT, and undertake ad hoc projects as required by the directors. This position is ideal for a hands-on candidate with strong technical experience and knowledge of UK accounting principles and governance best practices, preferably with a background in accountancy practice.   • Qualified Accountant or QBE with sound technical and relevant experience
  • Highly organised, hands-on analytical Accountant with good interpersonal and management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, detail-orientated with the ability to prioritise a varied workload
  • Natural leader and strong management skills
