This is a static, day-based Process Chemist / Site Chemist position for a modern Power Generation facility in the Kent area, focusing on water treatment, effluent monitoring and fuel chemistry across the plant.
The role holder will be responsible for sampling, analysing, and interpreting chemical data to ensure plant performance and environmental compliance. You'll play a vital role in supporting safe and efficient power generation by managing the chemistry of water/steam circuits, emissions, and fuel characteristics, while working closely with operations and maintenance teams.
Role & Responsibilities
- Carry out routine and non-routine chemical analysis on boiler water, cooling water, effluent, and fuel samples.
- Monitor and maintain correct chemical dosing regimes to support efficient plant operation and corrosion control.
- Diagnose process chemistry issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of test results, trends, and incidents.
- Ensure all sampling equipment and laboratory instruments are calibrated and maintained to standard.
- Support environmental reporting, emissions compliance and regulatory audits.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of chemical processes and procedures.
- Assist in procurement and inventory control of chemicals and laboratory supplies.
- Work collaboratively with operations and engineering staff to resolve technical problems and optimise plant chemistry.
- Ensure adherence to site health & safety, quality and environmental standards at all times.
Requirements
- Degree or HNC in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
- Experience working in a process or industrial chemistry role - ideally within energy, utilities, or heavy industry.
- Strong understanding of water treatment, environmental emissions, and laboratory best practice.
- Comfortable with analysing technical data, preparing reports and recommending action.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- IT literate - confident using lab software, spreadsheets and plant control systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Package Details
- Salary is around 50,000 per annum.
- Day-based, Monday to Friday role with some flexibility required for peak periods.
