Are you a compassionate Health Care Assistant ready to make a difference in education?

If so, GSL Education are looking for a dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) with a background in healthcare assistance to support students with diverse needs in a nurturing educational environment in Ashford. Your experience in healthcare will be invaluable in providing tailored support to students, ensuring their well-being and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support to students with special educational needs, including those with physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and speech and language difficulties.
  • Assist in the implementation of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) by adapting learning materials and strategies to meet each student's unique needs.
  • Support students' personal care needs, including mobility assistance, feeding, and toileting, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to monitor student progress and adjust support strategies accordingly.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
  • Utilise communication aids such as PECS, Makaton, or other tools to enhance student interaction and learning.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant, particularly with children or young people with special needs.
  • Understanding of various SEN conditions, including ASD, ADHD, and physical disabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to undergo enhanced background checks, as required for working with children and vulnerable adults.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3, SEN TA training) are desirable.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
