We are seeking a Solicitor with expertise in adult social care law to join our Legal Services, Governance department. This role is crucial for providing legal advice and support, particularly in protecting vulnerable individuals. It involves handling complex legal cases and advising on joint decision-making processes between adult services and the NHS.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead and manage a small team of lawyers and support staff.
  • Personally handle complex legal cases including judicial reviews, inquests, complaints, and data protection issues.
  • Represent the Council in court and tribunals, ensuring effective legal advocacy.
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice across all Council activities.
  • Work closely with clients to ensure efficient and responsive legal services.
  • Stay updated with developments in legal and local government fields.
  • Utilise legal IT systems effectively and deliver training to staff and Council members.
  • Continuously improve legal processes and services within the department.
  • Support and supervise colleagues, participate in appraisals, and contribute to team management.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support the department's goals.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Fully Qualified solicitor.
  • Strong advocacy experience in courts.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • In-depth understanding of adult social care law.
  • Comfortable using IT and word processing tools.
  • Flexible and proactive attitude, with a commitment to improving services.
  • Experience advising local authorities is desirable.
