Tameside Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Child Protection Conference Chair to join our safeguarding team. This is a full-time, office-based agency role offering a vital opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people.You will play a key role in chairing Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences, ensuring the highest standards of professional practice are upheld. This role requires immediate availability, so prior experience in child protection chairing is essential.Key Responsibilities
  • Chair statutory Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences in accordance with Working Together to Safeguard Children statutory guidance.
  • Provide independent oversight and ensure robust decision-making where children are deemed at risk of significant harm.
  • Conduct midpoint reviews to monitor progress and ensure compliance with child protection plans.
  • Undertake the Practice Review Process to challenge delay or ineffective practice and promote continuous improvement.
  • Offer views at Legal Gateway Panels and attend professional meetings as required.
  • Chair Child in Need (CIN) meetings and conduct home visits to ensure the child’s voice is central to planning.
Requirements
  • Qualified social worker with Social Work England registration.
  • Substantial experience chairing Child Protection Conferences.
  • In-depth understanding of safeguarding frameworks, particularly Working Together to Safeguard Children.
  • Confident, assertive, and able to challenge poor practice constructively.
  • Must be local to Tameside and able to work fully office-based.
