Safety, Health & Wellbeing Lead - Major Infrastructure Project

A leading contractor delivering one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects is seeking a Safety, Health & Wellbeing Lead to take ownership of SH&W across a key delivery area. This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior-level professional with a strong background in civil engineering and major project delivery.

The successful candidate will be the primary SH&W lead for the assigned section, managing all safety, health and wellbeing matters while working closely with both delivery teams and the central SH&W function. Their role will be pivotal in driving a positive safety culture onsite and ensuring consistent implementation of SH&W strategy and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead SH&W activities for the NC2A delivery area, ensuring alignment with wider strategic goals and milestones.
  • Act as the key liaison between the delivery team and central SH&W function via the Routewide SH&W Manager.
  • Oversee the completion of hazard profiles and implement proportionate local assurance measures.
  • Analyse performance data, identify trends, and engage with teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Promote behavioural safety initiatives such as "Making the Right Choice" and wellbeing programmes.
  • Share best practices, lead on investigations, and ensure consistency of compliance across the section.
  • Conduct audits, assurance activities, and support reporting on all SH&W criteria and events.
About You:
  • Extensive management experience in SH&W (5+ years at leadership/ management level).
  • Strong understanding of SH&W in the construction and civil engineering sectors.
  • Proven experience delivering SH&W for both subcontracted and self-delivered works.
  • Experience on major infrastructure projects is essential.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards).
  • Chartered or working towards chartered status.
  • Excellent communication, engagement, and leadership skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
