The Traffic Planner will play an essential role in the road transport operations department, ensuring efficient route planning and delivery schedules within the transport & distribution industry. This position is based outside of Banbury and requires excellent organisational skills to meet operational demands.

Description

Transport Planning

  • Schedule vehicle collections and deliveries using the company fleet and subcontractors.
  • Create and manage driver work schedules.
  • Monitor and adjust plans to ensure timely and efficient execution.

Driver & Fleet Management

  • Communicate instructions clearly to drivers.
  • Liaise with maintenance staff for vehicle upkeep.
  • Provide out-of-hours support on a rotational basis.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure operations comply with transport legislation (e.g., drivers' hours).
  • Promote safe working practices and monitor health & safety.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain professional service standards.
  • Identify and act on business opportunities and risks.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients and internal teams.

Financial Efficiency

  • Maximise revenue per trip through effective planning.
  • Follow company financial procedures.

Profile

A successful Traffic Planner should have:

Technical & Operational

  • Manual road traffic planning
  • Knowledge of UK transport operations (European knowledge desirable)
  • CPC National & International (desirable)
  • Strong geographical knowledge

Communication & Leadership

  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in driver management
  • Ability to lead by example

IT & Analytical

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Financial awareness related to transport operations
