Full-Time Teacher of Sociology Required - Outstanding Barking School (September 2025 Start)
Our Outstanding school in the vibrant and diverse borough of Barking, London, seeks a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Teacher of Sociology to join our thriving Social Sciences department and make a real difference to the sociological understanding and analytical skills of our students at Key Stages 4 and 5, commencing in September 2025.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Planning, preparing, and delivering engaging and effective Sociology lessons that cater to the diverse learning needs of our students at GCSE and A-Level, reflecting the social realities of Barking.
- Fostering students' understanding of key sociological theories, concepts, and research methods.
- Encouraging critical thinking, analysis, and evaluation of social issues relevant to Barking and wider society.
- Assessing and tracking student progress in Sociology, providing constructive feedback, and implementing effective intervention strategies where necessary.
- Contributing to the development, implementation, and review of the Sociology curriculum, ensuring alignment with examination specifications.
- Utilizing and contributing to the development of high-quality Sociology resources, including contemporary research and media.
- Contributing to extracurricular activities that promote social awareness and debate within the school community.
- Collaborating effectively with colleagues within the Social Sciences department and across the wider school to foster a rich and interdisciplinary learning environment within the Barking context.
- Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practice and keep abreast of current developments in sociological theory and research.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A degree in Sociology or a closely related field.
- Successful experience teaching Sociology at GCSE and A-Level.
- A strong understanding of the A-Level Sociology curriculum and relevant examination specifications.
- Excellent pedagogical skills and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners in a diverse urban environment like Barking.
- A passion for Sociology and the ability to inspire students and foster their critical understanding of the social world.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with an awareness of social issues relevant to the Barking community being beneficial.
- A commitment to the safeguarding and well-being of students and the promotion of social justice and critical thinking within the Barking community.
