Behaviour Mentor - SEN School (Post-16)
Location: Barnet, HA8 (Commutable from Edgware, Hendon, Colindale, Finchley, Mill Hill, Borehamwood)
Pay: 95-115 per day
Contract: Long-term to permanent

Long Term Futures are working with a specialist SEN provision in Barnet to appoint a committed Behaviour Mentor to work with Post-16 students who have a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many learners present with behaviours linked to anxiety, communication differences, and sensory sensitivities, requiring a calm, structured approach.

The Role

  • Providing consistent 1:1 and small group support in both classroom and vocational learning environments
  • Using positive behaviour management techniques to promote engagement and self-control
  • Supporting students during transitions, breaks, and community-based learning
  • Assisting with the development of social and life skills to prepare students for further education or employment
  • Collaborating closely with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams to ensure consistent support strategies are in place

Ideal Requirements

  • Experience working with students aged 16+ with SEN, particularly ASD, ADHD, or SEMH needs
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • An understanding of sensory needs, communication difficulties, and anxiety triggers
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly
  • A proactive and empathetic approach, with genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential
