The Role:
•   Leading the strategic direction of the Science department
•   Coaching and mentoring colleagues across all key stages
•   Driving academic progress and raising attainment
Key Responsibilities
•   Develop Science curricula meeting national standards and school objectives
•   Lead departmental CPD through coaching, observations, and INSET
•   Monitor teaching quality via book scrutiny and lesson walkthroughs
•   Analyse performance data to implement targeted interventions
•   Manage health & safety protocols including risk assessments

Qualifications
•   Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)Â
•   Degree in Science (specialism in Biology/Chemistry/Physics preferred)Â
•   Leadership qualification (e.g., NPQML/NPQSL) or willingness to obtain
Experience
•   Proven success teaching Science at KS3-KS5
•   Leadership experience in curriculum development/team management
•   Data-driven practice: Tracking student progress through assessment analysis
•   Coaching/mentoring staff to improve teaching standards
Subject Leadership Skills
•   Strategic vision for Science education aligned with school priorities
•   Curriculum design expertise: Sequencing knowledge from KS2-KS5
•   Assessment leadership: Implementing formative strategies and exam board requirements
•   Resource management: Budget oversight and safety compliance
Essential Competencies
•   Inspirational leadership fostering high expectations
•   Collaborative approach working with SLT/governors
•   Inclusion focus addressing diverse learner needs
•   Technological proficiency with STEM teaching tools
Desirable Attributes
•   Multi-academy trust experience or cross-school collaboration
•   External partnerships with STEM organisations
•   Postgraduate qualifications in Science education
•   SEND experience in adaptive teaching strategies
