SEMH Teacher - Barnoldswick

We are looking for an outstanding Secondary Teacher to join our trauma-informed Alternative Provision School in Barnoldswick. This role is ideal for a teacher with experience or a strong interest in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Our students are not always able to succeed in mainstream environments and require a flexible, compassionate, and creative approach to learning. This is a unique opportunity to help shape futures by offering a fresh start through trust, consistency, and connection.

About The School:

Our client school is a specialist Alternative Provision catering to secondary-aged students (11-16) who face a variety of complex barriers to learning, including ASC, ADHD, trauma, anxiety, attachment difficulties, and SEMH challenges, within Barnoldswick. Many of our students have experienced disrupted education and may arrive disengaged, but with the right support, they begin to re-engage and thrive.

  • A trauma-informed, relationship-led approach

  • Small class sizes (typically 4-8 students per group)

  • High staff-to-student ratios and consistent adult presence

  • Individualised learning pathways tailored to each student's emotional and academic needs

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver creative, differentiated lessons across a range of subjects (subject specialism welcome), with a strong emphasis on engagement, flexibility, and real-life application.

  • Provide a safe, consistent, and nurturing environment where students feel understood, respected, and supported.

  • Use trauma-informed strategies to manage and pre-empt behaviours, including restorative practices and co-regulation.

  • Collaborate with learning mentors, support staff, therapists, and the SENCO to create and implement EHCP targets and bespoke learning plans.

  • Foster life skills, emotional literacy, and resilience, not just academic progress.

  • Regularly assess and track both academic and personal development milestones using non-traditional measures of progress.

We're Looking For Someone Who:
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - primary or secondary trained (experience as an SEMH Teacher desired).

  • Has a genuine passion for inclusive education and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by neurodiverse students and those with SEMH needs.

  • Can adapt teaching styles and build trusting, therapeutic relationships with vulnerable young people.

Tradewind is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, satisfactory references, and all necessary pre-employment checks.
