Principal Fire Safety Advisor - Safety, Health and Environment

Contract: 6 months

Location: Barrow (3 days per week onsite)

Rate: £47.41 PAYE (£54.30 including holiday pay) or £63.96 Umbrella

Clearance: BPSS + SC (UK Eyes Only)

Role:

Lead fire safety for high-hazard site projects (new builds & refurbishments) from design through to handover. Act as SME for fire strategy, risk assessment, and fire protection systems for our defence engineering client. You will be supporting the facilities used for the design and build of submarine projects.

Core Duties:

  • Develop/review fire strategies and risk assessments for complex buildings.
  • Review designs & drawings for compliance with BS9999, Approved Document B.
  • Oversee fire prevention/protection systems from design to commissioning.
  • Maintain fire safety policies and management plans.
  • Advise and liaise with engineering/project teams.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Fire safety engineering in high-hazard industries.
  • Complex fire risk assessment experience.
  • Knowledge of UK fire codes (BS9999, ADB).
  • Full lifecycle project involvement (concept → handover).

Qualifications:

  • STEM degree or equivalent experience.
  • Professional fire safety certification (IFE, NEBOSH Fire) preferred.
