Finance Officer

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated finance professional to join a dynamic NHS organisation as a Finance Officer.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for providing financial insight, business partnering, and strategic advice across transformation programmes and corporate services. You’ll lead a high-performing team, influence decision-making at executive level, and ensure strong financial control in the delivery of innovative service models.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead financial business partnering for transformation and corporate directorates

  • Provide strategic financial guidance, modelling, and reporting to senior leadership

  • Support the delivery of cost improvement and efficiency programmes

  • Manage and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of high performance

  • Ensure compliance with financial governance, audit, and NHS regulatory requirements

  • Deputise for the Associate Director of Finance - Transformation where required

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enable effective financial planning

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Fully qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience

  • Substantial experience working in senior finance roles within the NHS or public sector

  • Strong background in financial planning, budgeting, and business case development

  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage finance teams

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with non-finance stakeholders

  • Ability to work strategically while managing operational detail

  • Skilled in presenting complex financial data clearly and effectively

Desirable Skills
  • Experience with NHS tendering, commissioning, and shared services

  • Familiarity with Standing Financial Instructions (SFIs) and NHS procurement regulations

  • Experience delivering transformation or efficiency programmes in a healthcare setting
