Cobalt is partnering with a leading global real estate services firm to recruit a General Duties Operative to support a major client site in Basildon, Essex.
This is a site-based role within a larger Facilities Management contract, ideal for someone who brings practical skills, a proactive mindset, and takes pride in their work. You'll be part of a close-knit site team helping to ensure the smooth, safe and professional operation of the building day-to-day.
You'll be responsible for a broad range of planned and reactive fabric maintenance tasks, working under the guidance of the Site Supervisor and alongside subcontractors and specialist engineers. From painting and minor carpentry through to plumbing and inspections, this is a varied, hands-on role with plenty of scope to make a visible impact.
Key responsibilities will include:
-
Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance including minor building repairs, fabric upkeep, and general handyman duties.
-
Supporting health and safety compliance, site inspections, and emergency response activity.
-
Working closely with external contractors and specialist engineers, supporting service delivery across all trades.
-
Maintaining accurate documentation and using the site's CAFM system to close and update tasks.
-
Ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and workmanship across the site.
-
Providing occasional support out of hours in response to emergencies or critical issues.
We're looking for someone with experience in a similar role - ideally within a commercial facilities management environment - and a strong grasp of general maintenance tasks.
You'll need to be proactive, self-motivated, and safety-conscious, with the ability to manage your own workload and work well with others. Strong communication skills and a team-player attitude are essential.
Health and safety awareness is important, as is a willingness to work at height and follow correct procedures at all times.
