Noble Recruiting are currently recruiting a confident and experienced Ocean Freight Import Clerk to join our friendly and proactive Client in Basildon, Essex.

Due to the nature of our roles, candidates must be a UK Resident residing within the local area. Please note we cannot offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates.

Currently seeking a proactive Ocean Freight Import Clerk to join the logistics team. The ideal candidate should have a good understanding of import processes and regulations.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Manage import files from booking to final delivery, ensuring accurate and timely data entry into the freight management system.
  • Liaise with overseas agents, shipping lines, and carriers to obtain arrival notices, bills of lading, and other necessary documents.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant customs entries are completed.
  • Track shipments and update customers on ETA, clearance progress, and delivery status.
  • Verify and process freight invoices, including ocean freight, port fees, and customs charges.
  • Prepare and distribute arrival notices and delivery instructions to clients and haulage companies.
  • Resolve discrepancies or delays with shipments, proactively communicating issues to clients and internal teams.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain professional relationships with clients, suppliers, and partners.

You will need:

  • Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in Ocean Freight Import Operations within a Freight Forwarding environment.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping documentation (e.g., bill of lading, commercial invoice, packing list).
  • Familiarity with customs clearance procedures and INCOTERMS.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with both FCL and LCL shipments.
  • Basic understanding of port operations and container logistics.
  • Previous use of customs software systems (e.g., CHIEF/CDS).
  • Driver with own transport is desirable.
  • UK resident and the right to work in the UK.
