Deputy Manager - Children's Home

The Opportunity

On behalf of our client, a well-established and highly respected provider of therapeutic children's residential care, we are seeking an experienced and compassionate Deputy Manager for a 2-3 bed EBD (Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties) home based in Basildon.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Senior Support Worker or Team Leader ready to step into a leadership role, or an existing Deputy Manager seeking a new challenge within a nurturing, forward-thinking organisation. The Role

As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in overseeing the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance with Ofsted regulations. You will provide leadership, guidance, and support to the staff team, helping to create a positive, stable environment where young people feel safe, valued, and empowered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Registered Manager in all aspects of the home's operation.
  • Lead shifts and ensure the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed care.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
  • Oversee and contribute to care planning, risk assessments, and behaviour support plans.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop residential care staff, fostering a positive team culture.
  • Ensure all documentation, reports, and records meet regulatory standards.
  • Work collaboratively with external professionals, families, and stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation and participation in Ofsted inspections.
  • Promote independence, resilience, and positive outcomes for young people.
  • Deputise for the Registered Manager when required.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm or 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • No weekend work required
  • Occasional sleep-ins may be required to meet the needs of the service

About You

  • NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Children and Young People (or equivalent) - essential.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a children's residential setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and Ofsted frameworks.
  • Experience supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) or trauma.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • A resilient, caring, and child-centred approach to care.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, with willingness to undertake occasional sleep-ins.
